I was experiencing my own angst about Falwell's death. Knowing the kinds of hateful and intolerant things he said to entire groups of people, placing blame and pointing fingers (not to mention the arrogance of assuming there is only one set of beliefs for all Christians to have...and they are his), it is very tempting to be grateful that his voice is silenced. But that is my baser side I must admit for it assumes that he is the "other" and totally unlike me. And that, of course, is an error. He was passionate about his beliefs and that I admire, even as I am not convinced compassion for others was what drove his zeal. I am comfortable in the knowledge that we shall all reap what we sow. May God have mercy on his soul and provide comfort to his family.
